Gross Description -- A Patient with a History of Colonic Adenocarcinoma

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The specimen was labeled "segments of small bowel and liver". It consisted of a 12.0 x 11.0 x 6.0 cm resection of adhesed tan and hemorrhagic small bowel with attached 7.0 x 4.0 x 1.0 cm non-anatomic resection of tan cauterized liver. On further dissection, a 6.0 x 4.0 x 3.0 cm mucinous gray, hemorrhagic mass was eroding through the areas of adhesion into the small bowel mucosa and came to within 0.1 cm of the hepatic surgical resection margin. The tumor came to within 2.0 cm of one small bowel resection margin and 3.5 cm of the opposite small bowel resection margin. The uninvolved mucosa was tan-pink and edematous. A single 0.4 cm yellow-white submucosal mass had a smooth, yellow-white cut surface.
