*Specimens

Blood: 3 to 15 mL, collected in ACD tube (yellow top) or EDTA tubes (lavender top). Heperin tubes (green top) are not preferred but may be used

Amniotic fluid (17th or 18th week of pregnancy: 5 to 20 mL, collected sterile, and shipped in sterile tube or T25 culture flask

Chorionic villus (8th to 12th week of pregnancy): 10 to 50 mg wet chorionic villi, collected sterile, dissected free of maternal tissue, and shipped in sterile tube or T25 culture flask

Cheek brushes: Two brushes, shipped to laboratory with protection caps secured

* Shipment

A completed requisition should be included with each sample and should provide the following information: test requested; patient's name, address, and Social Security number; insurance information; and name, address, and telephone number of referring physician.
