Gross Description -- Seven Year Old Girl with Seizures

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

Following localization of the lesion, a left partial temporal lobectomy was performed. The specimen was 5.5 x 3.8 x 3.3 cm. and consisted of the middle and inferior temporal gyri. The specimen was notable for slightly thickened and very firm gyri. The leptomeninges were slightly fibrotic and had prominent vasculature, but there was no calcification . Serial sectioning revealed a well demarcated cortical gray ribbon which was slightly gritty. The subcortical white matter was soft and contained small cystic areas, often at the gray-white junction.
