Gross Description -- Acute Leukemia, Nodular Skin Lesions and Splenomegaly


GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The spleen is 25 x 17 x 9.5 cm and weighs 2,150 grams. The surface is slightly nodular. On cut surface, the spleen shows numerous small tan-yellow/slightly green nodules that are purulent in nature, ranging up to 0.3 cm in diameter. In one 5 x 3 cm area, the splenic parenchyma is possibly autolyzed or necrotic. The wedge biopsy of liver shows brown parenchyma with normal architecture and a smooth pink-purple capsule.
