Case 39 -- Anemia

PATIENT HISTORY:

The patient is a 73 year old female with anemia of unknown etiology and a low reticulocyte count. Her past medical history includes diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and slight chronic renal insufficiency. Erythropoietin level is 14 mU/ml [normal range <25 mU/ml]. She has no evidence of hemolysis or bleeding. Her current medications include insulin, Lasix, Vasotec, Aldomet, and Bactrim .
