Microscopic examination reveals that the cyst wall is composed of hyalinized fibrous tissue (Images 06 and 07) and focally lined by flat, endothelial-like cells (Image 08). An elastic stain shows a moderate amount of elastic tissue within the cyst wall (Image 09). The inner surface focally shows organizing blood clots (Image 10). There are nests of entrapped adrenal cortical cells (Image 11) and dilated, thin walled vascular channels within the fibrous cystic wall (Image 12). The adrenal gland focally shows compression atrophy (image 13).
