Gross Description -- Respiratory Distress

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

Pertinent findings were confined to the cardiovascular system with cardiomegaly (550 grams) and moderate biventricular dilatation and hypertrophy (LV- 2.2 cm and RV- 0.8 cm). There were serpiginous foci of pale tan myocardial discoloration with surrounding hyperemia involving the right and left lateral ventricles, the posterior left ventricle with extension to the interventricular septum, and the apex.

In addition, the coronary arteries showed numerous eccentric and concentric atherosclerotic plaques with maximal involvement of the left main and right coronary arteries resulting in 80-90% luminal narrowing.
