Microscopic Description -- Abdominal Mass

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION:

Representative sections showed a thin rim of compressed, histologically unremarkable, adrenal cortex surrounding a hemorrhagic mass. The mass contained zones of mature adipose tissue and hematopoietic substance which included myeloid, erythroid, and megakaryocytic elements in all stages of maturation. There were no lipoblasts, and there was no significant, monomorphic hematopoietic blast population. Extensive, recent hemorrhage associated with necrosis was present.
