An interactive meeting designed to plan and effect change.

This interactive meeting is designed to bring both pathology laboratory professionals involved in laboratory diagnostic testing and non-laboratory healthcare professionals who utilize laboratory diagnostic testing services together with patient safety experts to:

  1. Discuss current evidence obtained through both funded research and institutional quality improvement initiatives regarding errors and error reduction methods associated with all phases of laboratory diagnostic testing
  2. Identify priority areas in pathology laboratory diagnostic testing services to target for both future research and institutional clinical quality improvement initiatives
  3. Plan specific system changes that are practically feasible that attendees may take back to their own institutions to effect improvements in laboratory diagnostic testing and patient safety

Individuals as well as institutional teams involved in clinical quality improvement and patient safety work or research who are interested in focusing effort on laboratory diagnostic testing are especially encouraged to attend.

Who Should Attend

This educational activity is designed for medical students, pathology residents, all pathology laboratory professionals, laboratory administrators, quality assurance/patient safety officers, pathologists non-pathologist physicians, and other professionals interested in patient safety science and pathology laboratory patient safety.

Continuing Education Credit

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Other health care professionals are awarded 1.425 continuing education units (CEU's) which are equal to 14.25 contact hours.
