Research Interests:
Dr. Yazer's main research focus is in the area of blood group genetics, specifically the ABO blood group system. Using molecular techniques the nature of the alleles underlying weak A and B phenotypes can be elucidated and the resulting enzyme expressed in a bacterial model to facilitate studying its reaction kinetics. These studies provide insights into fundamental questions of glycobiology and enzyme kinetics. Dr. Yazer is also actively involved in studying the coagulation effects of xenotransplantation
