CLINICAL EXPERTISE:

Dr. Swerdlow's expertise is in hematopathology with an emphasis on lymph node and related tissue diagnostic hematopathology using a multiparameter approach that incorporates morphology, flow cytometric and immunohistochemical phenotype, cytogenetic, molecular and clinical data. He is also responsible for oversight of the Division's varied clinical activities that include general hematology laboratories, a flow cytometry laboratory and a variety of diagnostic services.

RESEARCH EXPERTISE:

Dr. Swerdlow's research efforts involve the use of a multiparameter approach to better define, diagnose and understand selected B-cell and some T/NK lymphomas and the post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders. Areas of investigation include the following (some in collaboration with other investigators either at the University of Pittsburgh or elsewhere): multiparameter investigation of B-cell lymphomas with features intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Burkitt lymphoma, SNP analyses of PTLD, "in situ" follicular lymphomas, T follicular helper cell antigen expression in T and B cell proliferations, plasmacytoid dendritic cells in reactive lymph nodes, gamma-delta intestinal T-cell lymphomas, and high throughput cytogenetic testing.
