Walid E. Khalbuss, M.D., Ph.D.


Dr. Khalbuss is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Director of Cytology and Cytopathology Fellowship program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

Research Interests:

Dr. Khalbuss' interests include fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy diagnosis and exfoliative cytology (Urine; Fluid; CSF & CNS Cytology); and the application of ancillary studies and molecular diagnostics in cytopathology. He is also interested in Cytopathology Informatics and Telecytology, as well as, the Clinical Applications of Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) in the field of cytopathology. Dr. Khalbuss is a member of the CAP Cytopathology Resources Committee and has presented several educational courses/seminars/workshops at national and international meetings, including the United Stated and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC); the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the European Congress of Cytology, the British Society of Clinical Cytology (BSCC);the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP); and the International Academy of Cytology (IAC) Tutorial.
