Research Interests:

Dr. Rene J. Duquesnoy is Professor of Pathology and Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He received a Ph.D. degree in Experimental Pathology from the University of Tennessee in Memphis and he was a post-doctoral fellow in Immunology at the University of Minnesota. He has served as Director of the Histocompatibility Testing Laboratory at The Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin and as Director of the Tissue Typing Laboratory at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. In 1991, he joined the newly formed Division of Transplant Pathology. His current research interests deal with the mechanisms of transplant rejection, the role of heat shock proteins in transplant immunity and donor selection strategies for highly sensitized transplant candidates. Dr Duquesnoy is an internationally recognized expert in HLA and transplant immunobiology. He has given numerous invited presentations locally, nationally and abroad. His bibliography has almost 300 scientific publications, review articles and book chapters. Dr. Duquesnoy provides consultation in the areas of histocompatibility testing and HLA matching for transplantation and platelet transfusion, immunological mechanisms of transplant rejection and HLA immunogenetics for paternity testing.
