DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY PROGRAMS

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is a comprehensive, highly integrated medical center dedicated to providing exemplary patient care, educating the next generation of health care professionals, and advancing basic and clinical research. UPMC-HS encompasses three adult acute-care medical-surgical hospitals, UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Montefiore and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Additional teaching facilities include the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens Hospital, and a host of specialized centers. The University's six health sciences schools are closely linked with the medical center. Most UPMC facilities are located within easy walking distance of the University of Pittsburgh campus, and many are intercon-nected by tunnels and skywalks.

Core training is provided to Pathology residents at UPMC Presbyterian, with rotations spent at affiliated institutions and the large number of medical specialty groups at the University, including the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute; the Pittsburgh Transplant Institute; and the Department of Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry, internationally known for its outstanding facilities and faculty. The proximity of the hospitals allows joint conferences, meetings, research endeavors, and case reviews.

Through its wealth of facilities and affiliated hospitals, UPMC-HS has developed cutting-edge medical programs and recruited some of the nation's most talented and motivated scientists. As a result, UPMC-HS offers exceptional research and training opportunities in a setting that fosters multidisciplinary investigations and collegial scientific exchange.
