DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY DIVISIONS

Neuropathology

(More Infomation about the Division)

Committed to the discovery and development of molecular diagnostic techniques, the Division also provides routine neuropathologic diagnostic evaluations.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Applies immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, and molecular biology reaction technology to the diagnosis of infectious and neoplastic diseases

  • Translates new insights into the pathogenesis of neurologic disease into clinical knowledge and diagnostic tests

  • Instructs medical students, pathology residents, and neurology and neuro-surgery residents in diseases of the nervous system and their clinical, anatomic, and radiographic correlates

  • Conducts weekly continuing medical education conferences for neurologists and neurosurgeons in the region

  • Heads a multidisciplinary team of researchers investigating the pathogenesis of neurotropic viruses, especially HIV, using advanced anatomic, cellular, and molecular techniques
