DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY DIVISIONS

Pediatric Pathology

Located in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the nation's premier pediatric hospitals, the Division of Pediatric Pathology provides the full range of diagnostic services in anatomic pathology including routine histopathology, as well as molecular diagnostics, cytology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and ultrastructural pathology, microbiology, and virology in this recognized subspecialty.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Respond to national and international requests for consultation in disorders of childhood

  • Pediatric solid organ neoplasia, including pediatric bone and soft tissue tumors, with participation in the Oncology Group

  • Transplantation pathology, including liver, bowel, kidney, lung, heart and bone marrow and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders

  • Bowel motility disorders, including acetylcholinesterase stains for the diagnosis of Hirschsprung's disease

  • Histiocyte disorders, including Langerhans cell histiocytosis and dendritic cell disorders

  • ACGME approved Fellowship program in pediatric pathology

  • Eight week resident rotation offered in the third or fourth year

  • Offers molecular diagnostic services for pediatric infectious disease, including pertussis, quantitative EBV
