Pathology Informatics
The Department of Pathology at the UPMC was the first formal Division of Pathology Informatics in the country.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Maintenance and development of cutting edge clinical information systems to support anatomic, clinical pathology, and molecular diagnostics
- Trains fellows, residents, and resident rotators from other institutions in this emerging discipline
- Develops cutting edge medical informatics developmental and research programs focused on next generation pathology reporting methods, imagery,
and bioinformatics.

These highlights are the central tenets of this rapidly growing Division. The Division currently consists of four faculty members, five graduate students, three clinical fellows, three World Wide Web developers/administrators, twelve systems analysts, and five developmental programmers. This Division, in close association with the Center for Biomedical Informatics, offers nondegree-seeking, as well as degree-seeking candidates, the ability to train in this emerging discipline. Degree programs in Information Sciences and Telecommunications, Intelligent Systems, and Computational Biology are available. The Division hosts a national meeting, as well as six Web sites including:
