DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY DIVISIONS

Gynecologic Pathology

Housed in Magee-Womens Hospital, the Division specializes in perinatal, obstetrical, neonatal, and gynecological pathology and cytopathology and performs all related diagnostic, teaching, and research activities for UPMC-HS.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Provides specialized diagnostic services such as flow cytometric analysis for DNA ploidy of gynecological tumors, in situ hybridization techniques of microorganisms (particularly human papilloma virus), and immunohistochemical detection of estrogen and progesterone receptors in tumors

  • Houses a clinical cell biology laboratory that specializes in flow cytometry, molecular genetics, and molecular biology

  • Assists in developing new programs such as a comprehensive breast care program, a center for excellence in oncology, and an ambulatorycare program
