Current Research Description:

Cardiac allograft arteriosclerosis is the leading cause of death in cardiac transplantation recipients and is hallmarked by intimal hyperplasia. Nitric oxide has been shown to inhibit intimal hyperplasia in various vessel injury models, including balloon injury, aorta or vein graft transplantation. We hypothesize that induction of nitric oxide in the vessel wall will inhibit cardiac allograft arteriosclerosis.
