Case 975-- Middle Age Female with a Femur Lesion

CLINICAL HISTORY

Middle age female with an incidental left hip lesion.

IMAGING STUDIES

Magnetic resonance imaging shows a well-defined lesion in the left intertrochanteric region that measures 1.7 x 2.2 x 2.6 cm. The lesion demonstrates low T1 and increased T2 signal as per radiology report.

GROSS EXAMINATION

Two core-needle biopsies of tan to brown bone measuring 1.5 and 1.7 cm in length by 0.1 cm in diameter.

MICROSCOPIC PATHOLOGY

Sections showed a bland fibroosseous lesion with curvilinear trabeculae of woven bone, myxofibrous stroma, small foci of adipose tissue, aggregates of xanthoma cells and scattered cementum-like ossicles. Some of the trabeculae display osteoblastic reaming.
