Microscopic Description -- Nine Year Old Girl with Nausea, Vomting and Hydrocephalus

Sections demonstrate a tumor with areas containing numerous perivascular pseudorosettes (Image 01, Image 02), as well as areas of necrosis (Image 03). There is also endothelial proliferation (Image 04) and numerous mitoses (Image 05) sometimes as many as five in a single high-power field. Other areas show cells with peri-nuclear clearing (Image 06) and some areas of tumor are virtually a patternless mass of malignant cells (Image 07) with no distinctive relationship to the vessels. Other areas of the tumor were less cellular and the perivascular pseduorosettes were more difficult to appreciate (Image 08).
