MOLECULAR AND IMMUNOHISTOLOGIC STUDIES:
The spleen is negative for detectable clonal cells. Immunohistochemical stains support the lack of a leukemic infiltrate as well as no detectable infection by herpes simplex, cytomegalovirus, or varicella zoster.
