Gross Description -- Neck Mass


GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The specimen is received in three parts.

Part 1:

Part 1 is received unfixed labeled "lymph node, right neck", and consists of three tan, glistening lymph nodes, ranging up to 1.0 cm. in greatest diameter, and a portion of tan, focally hemorrhagic, soft fibroadipose tissue, 1.8 x 1.3 x 0.3 cm. The three lymph nodes are totally submitted labeled 1A.

Part 2:

Part 2 is received unfixed labeled "tissue from right parotid artery", and consists of a 2.5 x 0.8 x 0.3 cm. portion of tan, focally hemorrhagic, fibrous tissue totally submitted labeled 2A.

Part 3:

Part 3 is received unfixed labeled "right carotid tumor", and consists of 2.9 x 2.2 x 2.0 cm. firm, tan, ovoid mass with adherent fibrous tissue. Serial sectioning reveals a tan, firm surface with fine, focal hemorrhage and central ill-defined lightly scared center. Gross images are captured, and the entire specimen is submitted labeled 3A - 3F.
