Gross Description -- Coccygeal Mass

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The specimen is received labeled "coccygeal mass" and consists of a large tissue mass, 7.2 x 7.5 x 7.3 cm. with an ellipse of unremarkable skin, 7.0 x 1.0 cm. Sectioning of the specimen reveals that it is almost entirely composed of a tumor mass with variated, tan-yellow to hemorrhagic color and variated texture, firm to gelatinous to necrotic. A small portion of bone (0.9 x0.2 x 0.2 cm.), representing a residual portion of the coccyx, is identified within the mass opposite the skin. The mass appears to have been removed intact and is covered by a capsule and portions of skeletal muscle. However, the mass does closely approach the resection margin in many locations.
