Gross Description -- Headache

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The first image is a CT scan of the head, showing a non-enhancing mass in the frontal sinus with a small amount of air present.

The gross specimen consists of one piece of soft tissue, representing the posterior wall of the frontal sinus, which measures 6.0 x 4.5 x 2.0 cm. Roughly in the center of the specimen is a yellow-white mass lesion, 3.8 cm x 3.5 cm, with soft papillary fronds projecting from its surface, ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 cm. The cut surface of the lesion has an ivory-white appearance. Also included is a rectangular piece of bone, 5.0 x 3.0 x 0.4 cm with no adherent soft tissue. In addition, multiple fragments of pink- tan, soft tissue and bone, representing sinus mucosa and papillary fronds similar in appearance to that described in the main specimen are submitted. These fragments measure 6.0 x 6.0 x 0.5 cm in aggregate.
