Microscopic Description -- Left Lower Quadrant Pain and Diarrhea


MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION:

Microscopic sections demonstrate ulceration and extensive squamous metaplasia of the rectum with varying degrees of dysplasia. There is intraepithelial and focal superficial invasion by nests of squamous cell carcinoma with basaloid growth. The lamina propria and submucosa show extensive inflammatory infiltrates.
