Gross Description -- Neck Mass


GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The specimen is received fresh labeled left thyroid lobe and consists of an ovoid pink- purple rubbery mass, 8.0 x 6.5 x 4.5 cm. and 135 grams. Cut section reveals tan-white, firm, fibrotic tissue that completely replaces any normal thyroid tissue. The mass is lobulated and extends to capsular surface. Additionally received is a tan, irregular, rubbery portion of tissue, 1.8 x 1.0 x 0.6 cm. (submitted in cassette 2N). The capsular surface is inked and representative sections are submitted in cassettes labeled 2A through 2M and 2N is additional tissue.

Gross photographs are taken.
