Gross Description -- Large Anterior Abdominal Mass

Examination of the surgical specimen of uterus with bilateral adnexa revealed a 15 x 10 x 8 cm uterus. The serosal surface of the uterus was distorted by a large, firm tumor mass measuring 11 x 7.5 x 8 cm. The uterus was opened to reveal large 6 x 5x 2.5 cm. soft and friable, broad-based polypoid tumor adherent to the posterior wall and filling the entire cavity of the uterus, the cut surfaces were fleshy, variegated, red-brown, and hemorrhagic with areas of necrosis. The remainder of the endometrium had multiple small endometrial polyps. The endocervical canal was free of polyps. The myometrium in addition to the large mass described earlier also contained multiple smaller similar intramural masses in the anterior and posterior myometrial wall. (Image 03)
