Gross Description -- Fatigue and Malaise

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

Postmortem examination revealed hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and diffuse lymphadenopathy.

The liver weighed 3500 grams with marked enlargement of all lobes. The liver capsule was smooth, but the parenchyma was necrotic and diffusely infiltrated by pale tumor micronodules. There was no fibrosis.

The spleen was enlarged,110 grams. The splenic capsule was smooth, but focally fibrotic. The splenic parenchyma was distorted by multiple infarcts and a diffuse nodular infiltrate, similar to that seen in the liver.

The thoracic and abdominal lymph nodes were enlarged with the largest, 8.0 cm in greatest dimension, located at the liver hilum. Sectioning revealed a tan, homogeneous infiltrate.
