Gross Description -- Bladder Mass

The specimen is received in four parts.

Part 1:

Part 1 is labeled "left distal ureter". The specimen consists of a segment of tan-white, tubular structure, weighing approximately 1.0 gram and measuring about 0.5 cm in length and up to 0.2 cm in diameter. The entire specimen is submitted in cassette 1A and 1B (1A a is frozen section).

Part 2:

Part 2 is labeled "right distal ureter". The specimen weighs approximately 1.0 gram and consists of a dilated tubular structure, measuring up to 0.8 cm in diameter. The entire specimen is submitted in cassette 2A (2A is a frozen section).

Part 3:

Part 3 is labeled as "bladder, uterus, tubes, ovaries, and portion of vaginal wall". The specimen weighs approximately 450.0 gram and measures 17.0 x 12.0 x 4.5 cm. The urinary bladder measures approximately 8.0 cm in length and up to 6.0 cm in diameter. Examination of the urinary bladder shows a large ulcerative tumor, which measures 4.5 x 4.0 cm and is located at posterior and right postoral/lateral wall. Grossly the tumor involves the muscular area and is extremely close to the resection surgical margin. Examination of the mucosa also showed a tumorous nodule which measures 2.5 cm in greatest size and is located at left lateral wall of the urinal bladder, about 1.5 cm from the right side tumor. Gross examination of the urinary bladder showed no other tumor. Segments of the tumor are submitted for research in OCT media and at -70C. Imprints of the tumor as well as frozen tissue is submitted for DNA ploidy analysis.
The uterus measures approximately 7.0 cm in length and up to 3.0 cm in diameter. The cervix is present and measures 3.0 cm x 2.5 cm. The external OS measures 0.9 cm in greatest diameter. Examination of the uterine cavity shows an atrophic uterus, without any obviously gross lesion. Both tubes and ovaries are present. The right tube measures 8.0 cm in length and up to 0.5 cm in diameter, the right ovary measures 3.0 x 2.5 x 1.0 cm, the left fallopian tube measures 8.0 cm in length and up to 0.5 cm in diameter, and the left ovary measures 3.0 x 2.5 x 1.0 cm.
Sections through the tubes and ovaries show no obvious gross lesion. A segment of the vaginal wall is also present and is attached to the uterus and measures 5.0 x 3.0 cm. Sectioning through the vaginal walls shows areas of tumor between the vaginal wall and the urinary bladder. Examination of the fatty tissue surrounding the specimen, shows no obvious lymph nodes.

Part 4:

Part 4 is labeled "distal ureter meatus". The specimen weighs approximately 3 gram and measures 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.5 cm. The entire specimen is submitted in cassette 4A. Other sections are saved.
