Microscopic Description -- Cushing's Syndrome

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION:

Histological examination reveals nests, cords, and sheets of tumor cells separated by delicate fibrous tissue stroma (Image 01) with focal disordered growth pattern (Image 02), cellular pleomorphism (Image 03), individual cell necrosis (Image 04), and prominent vascular invasion (Image 05). Two out of four hilar lymph nodes contain metastatic tumor (Image 06). Three mitoses are seen in fifty high power fields of the tumor. Immunostain for ACTH demonstrates strong positive staining in the tumor cells which correlates with the patients' history of Cushing's syndrome (Image 07).
