Electron Microscopic Examination -- Renal Insufficiency

ELETRONIC MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION:

The ultrastructural findings are based on the examination of one non-sclerotic glomerulus containing nodular deposition of amyloid material. The podocyte foot processes are largely discrete, except for occasional areas of foot process fusion. There is extensive deposition of fibrillar material morphologically compatible with amyloid extensively involving the mesangium, in addition to focal subendothelial, intramembranous and subepithelial areas of the glomerular basement membrane. The tubules photographed show evidence of cellular degeneration but do not appear to be involved by amyloid.
