Gross Description -- Late Onset Oligohydramnios and Grossly Normal Kidneys

GROSS DESCRIPTION:

The external examination revealed oligohydramnios's sequence. Compression deformities of the face were seen such as exagerated facial creases, flattened nasal tip with prominent alai nasi (Image 01). The ears were large and flattened. There was micrognathia with a slight crease on the chin (Image 02). Multiple mild joint contractions and redundant skin were present (Image 03). The lungs weighted 20.23 grams (N 25.3 +/- 12.6 grams). The kidneys were 12.11 grams (N 9.7 +/- 12.0 grams). They were the usual size and shape, and displayed the usual number of fetal lobulations. The cut surfaces showed distinct cortico-medullary demarcation, normal lobules, and undilated pelvo-calyceal systems. The ureters were normal, but the bladder was small. The placenta weighted 200 grams (10th percentile) and appeared unremarkable with a 3 vessels cord.
