The Department of Pathology Residency Program -

  • Health Insurance: provided by UPMC with varying deductible
  • Personal Paid Time Off (PTO): 20 working days/academic year
  • Holidays: July 4th; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Day; New Year's Day; Martin Luther King Day; Memorial Day
  • Sick Leave: As needed, contingent upon notification but counts against PTO
  • Maternity Leave: Fully paid up to 12 weeks under short-term disability policy
  • Short-Term Disability: Fully funded by the University
  • Long-Term Disability: Fully funded by the University
  • Life Insurance: Fully funded by the University
  • Medical Malpractice Insurance: Fully funded by the University
  • Book Fund Allowance: $1000 a year for books or conference expenses
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Residents/Fellows Assistance benefit up to $5000/academic yr. Tuition assistance at U of Pitt for dependent children first baccalaureate degree at 50% up to $6000 max/yr. (full time student) and for spouse up to $2000 max/yr. (full/part/time student).
  • Athletic Facilities: Use of University of Pittsburgh athletic facilities
  • Parking: Free of charge
  • Lab Coats: Two lab coats and laundering
  • Each resident is given a laptop computer
  • Each resident receives an initial set of textbooks
  • The department will reimburse for USMLE Step 3 and the Pathology Board Exam
  • Education Time Off (ETO): 5 working days/academic year plus time to take Board Exam
