The Department of Pathology plays an integral role in advancing the frontiers of biomedical research, education and patient care at the University of Pittsburgh. The faculty invests substantial time and energy in the education of graduate students, medical students, post-doctoral fellows and both academic and subspecialty pathologists. According to NIH rankings for 2003, the Department of Pathology was ranked 4th nationwide in the amount of grant funding received (exceeding $19.5 million), and has been in the top 10 in NIH funding to pathology departments for the last four consecutive years. The department has more than 150 full-time faculty bridging excellence in basic science, translational, and clinical achievements.
